A listing here expires
If nobody confirms the house is still vacant within 7 days, it disappears from search by itself. No house sits advertised for months after it was taken.
Your rent never passes through us
The M-Pesa prompt pays your landlord's own Paybill or bank account. Rent by Shopika records it, confirms it and issues the receipt. It never holds your rent.
Nobody asks you to pay first
No viewing fee, no deposit through us, no charge to a tenant at all. If a page or a person asks you to send money before you have seen a house, it is not us.

Late rent does not empty a house
A house is occupied or vacant because of who lives in it, never because of who has paid. That one rule is what keeps this search honest.
Overdue is not vacant
House 4 is occupied. September rent is overdue. It is not advertised.
Notice given is not available
A house is listed after the tenant has gone, and only once a manager confirms it.
Every payment has a receipt
Confirmed by M-Pesa, or signed off by the manager. Both of you can prove it.

Three checks, never mixed up
Each badge means one thing. A verified property does not make a house vacant, and a vacancy does not verify a payment. Shopika does not check a person's identity, so there is no badge that says it does.

Questions people ask
Does it really cost tenants nothing?
Yes. Searching, paying rent, receipts, statements and reporting a repair cost a tenant nothing, ever. Landlords are free during the pilot.
Who holds my rent money?
Your landlord. The M-Pesa prompt pays their own Paybill or bank account directly. Rent by Shopika records and confirms the payment; it never receives it.
My landlord is not on Rent by Shopika. Can I still use it?
You can search for houses and book viewings. To pay rent and get receipts here, the person you pay has to be on it too. Send them the link.
What if I have no email address?
You do not need one. Sign in with your phone number and a code we text you, or with a passkey or Google.
