An occupied house is a house with a tenant in it. An empty house is not charged.
What you pay Safaricom and Kenya Power
These charges are not ours and we never receive them.
- M-Pesa transaction costs are set and charged by Safaricom, to whoever is paying, under Safaricom's own tariff. They apply to a rent payment the same way they apply to any other M-Pesa payment.
- When you buy an electricity token, the money goes to Kenya Power's Paybill 888880 for your own meter. Kenya Power's own charges on a token purchase apply as usual.
Rent Shopika takes no commission from rent, and never holds your money. Rent goes straight into the landlord's own Paybill, Till or bank account.
When charging starts
We will email every landlord and show a notice in the app at least 30 days before the first charge. You will see the price, the date and the number of occupied houses it would apply to, before anything is billed. Nothing is charged to anybody today.
